My wife is due on July 4rth. I would like to get her something for mothers day, something that will last for years and remind her of our son, but im stumped! Any ideas would be appreciated.
I thought about a birthstone necklace, but the timing thing is making that a hard decision… I guess if the little man comes early i could just get another one… thanks for the thoughts!
Push gift??? i think she is doing this just for the presents :-p
Dear Derff44,
Congratulations! What an exciting time for you. You better act fast here, time is short.
This might sound a little "out of the box" but I would get her something to plant in the yard, if you have one. A flowering tree or bush or a rose bush. Lilacs are a nice choice too. Go to your local nursary and you’ll find the right one.
This is something that will grow every year with your child and when he’s older you can call it "Ryan’s Birth-day Tree" or whatever his name is. If you have more children, you can add to the collection. I did this with Christmas trees. For three years instead of buying a regular tree, I bought one with roots and planted it after Christmas. Now each of the kids have their own spruce tree in the yard. It’s really fun to see them grow.
Another idea would be "message in a bottle" This was Oprah’s "most romantic gift of the year" last year. It’s a keepsake cool bottle with a rolled up paper inside. She receives a message she can read with your words (from your heart) and also has the bottle as a reminder of the gift.
Pick the right moment and this will really touch her heart.
Best of luck to you and your family,
Deborah

My first thought was a necklace with July’s birthstone -
But if she delivers in early and in June then it takes away the sentimental from it
Even though most go overdue there’s a slight chance she *might* go early -
I suppose you could still do that in theory - yeah that’s probably what I would do but …
Edit: Yep - if she delivers in June then you could get her a "push gift" and have another necklace made for that particular birthstone
***Edit: yeah I don’t really get the whole "push gift" thing - it was just a thought lol

What about scheduling a 4D ultrasound for her? It’s the perfect way for her to see her little one before the birth and she’ll have it forever. Afterward you can take her to get a pedicure and a massage. They have special packages just for pregnant mothers.

How about a baby scrapbook? I’m sure you both along with family and friends will be taking so many pictures that you will not know what to do with. A scrapbook to put them in would be a perfect a gift. How about this one, http://www.memoryscrapbooks.com/sbx12b.html, in blue? Another favorite of mine is this one, http://www.memoryscrapbooks.com/mb88expb.html. I think they would both make great gifts for your wide for this Mother’s Day!
